When CCC president Simon Garber learned that Piano C. Red,
a legendary Chicago blues musician and a CCC driver, had been
shot by a robber who also stole his car, Simon was determined
to help. As Reds rehab proceeded, Simon prepared a reconditioned
taxi to replace the car and help Reds Flat Foot Boogie
Band carry heavy equipment to jobs. And Simon gave Red paratransit
vouchers, so he could arrange rides to band dates.
It all came together at the CCC barn on July 21, when Simon
presented the car and vouchers to Red and the Flat Foot Boogie
Band, and the group responded with a rousing blues concert!
